FAQ ( Frequently Asked Questions ).

  • Is Jiu-Jitsu god for exercise or self defense?
Jiu-Jitsu is great for exercise, self defense, discipline, weight loss, flexibility, mental focus, stress relief and much, much more.
Stop by to watch a class or try a free trial class.

  • Are there beginner classes available?
Yes, we were all beginners once. We know a class can be intimidating, especially is you feel like you don't already exercise or don't know anything. We cater our classes for beginners in fun and friendly environment. You will go a comfortable pace as a new person, make new friends, learn and grow in so many ways that you did not even think about.

  • Can I bring a friend with me?
Yes, sometimes a good friend will offer moral support and give a training partner to practice with after class. However, during some training an instructor will partner you with someone more advanced who can better guide you that a friend who is also new.

  • I have not trained before and feel lost?
Yes, you are new but we were all new at one time. We have a great team of people who are willing to help new people improve. Do not compare yourself to an experienced or advanced student, instead look for how much you are learning and improving as this is an individual journey. Try a class and see if you love it!

  •  I have an injury, what exercises or training can I do?
If you have a serious injury, then you should seek medical advice. Sometimes a Doctor's note maybe a good idea so you know you are clear. Some people with old nagging pain or limitations find a way around the injury. The may act as if they got injured in an fight or attack and see if they can still defend themselves and keep fighting. Sometimes it good to tuck one hand inside your belt and see if you can still stay in the fight. Sometimes is good to close your eyes and see if you can fight in the dark?
For a optimistic person, there are plenty of creative ways to succeed.

  •  What do the different color belts mean in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
The colors represent your rank which is a reflection of your time invested, experience, skill and several other factors.
Kids start off with a white belt & then earn 3 different gray belts, followed by 3 different yellow belts, followed by 3 different orange belts and then 3 different green belts. After age 16 the kids switch to adult colors.
Adults start with a white belt also but then go through 4 levels of blue belt, then purple belt, then brown belt and finally end up in a long series of black belts. A very small group will pass black belt and move to a coral belt & finally a red belt but these are very rare and take a lifetime of study.

  •  Do I need to buy any equipment?
Yes, as in most sports, you will need to invest in some equipment.
You will need a uniform, also know as a Gi (pronounced Gee), a type of compression shirt know as a rash-guard and a pair of grappling shorts (MMA shorts). If you have your own, that is fine or you can some of our team gear.
